Strong Showing
By Stephen Larkin
RADNOR - Our Penncrest Roaring Lions went to Radonr on windy, rainy night and still managed a potent offensive showing. With 330 yards of total offense and a lock down defensive effort the Lions put this one away early. The first quarter was dominated by Penncrest, scoring three times. The first was a 42 yard pass from Matt Atkinson to Matt Bundy. Atkinson kept the next one himself and ran it in for a five yard score. The third score came on a 47 yard interception by Phil Barbieri.
Radnor opened the scoring in the second quarter with a pass from Robert Collins to Andrew Perrot. Penncrest quickly got the momentum back with a 22 yard pass from Atkinson to Bundy. That was followed by a Jerry "Hammer" Boyer run of 36 yards for a 35-7 Penncrest half-time lead.
The scoring was opened in the third quarter by another Boyer 15 yard touchdown run. Tom Weathers capped the scoring with a fine 32 yard field goal. Weathers was also perfect on his points after touchdown, going 6 for 6. Weathers’ efforts gained him central league specialist of the week honors by the Delaware County Football Coaches Association. Other Penncrest honorees were John Young as defensive line player of the week and Matt Atkinson as honorable mention for his 6 for 6, 142 yard passing with one rushing touchdown and one passing touchdown performance. Speaking of Matt Atkinson, John Lohn of the Delaware County Daily Times pointed out this week that our Matt Atkinson has a QB rating of 235.95. Way to go Matty. Many Lions contributed to the 190 yards the lions gained on the ground, including Juhwan Young, Matt Hartley, Sarkis Nigolian, Joe Anderson and Brandon Battips. All in all, it was a strong effort on a difficult night for football with the final score 45-7, Lions.
